I saw this webside and decided to experiment with homemade radiation detectors.I built the " Experimenter's Ionization Chamber" circuit in this webside. I build this circuit.But I get 9V on my multimeter instead of several millivolts. I use BC517 transistor(I can't find MPSW45) and I haven't connect the ion chamber yet.What's wrong with my circuit?

didn't they specify a darlington transistor? i vaguely recall this circuit needs either one or several conventional transistors in series, as it needs >10000 gain to detect activity from a lantern mantle etc.
also don't forget that unless it is right next to an intense source it won't do anything.

BC517 datasheet According the datasheet,BC517 has gain >30000.So that's why I choose it.
Or can I connect several general propose transistors together ?
