I saw this webside and decided to experiment with homemade radiation detectors.I built the " Experimenter's Ionization Chamber" circuit in this webside.
I build this circuit. But I get 9V on my multimeter instead of several millivolts. I use BC517 transistor(I can't find MPSW45) and I haven't connect the ion chamber yet. What's wrong with my circuit?

Thanks

Could you post a photograph of your circuit for comparison with the origion circuit?

My circuit

I use 1k resistor and BC517 transister. The circuit is the same.

EDIT: transistor specified is in fact a darlington with high enough gain to work.. sorry for the confusion!!

have you double checked the pinout etc

also don't forget that unless it is right next to an intense source it won't do anything.

didn't they specify a darlington transistor? i vaguely recall this circuit needs either one or several conventional transistors in series, as it needs >10000 gain to detect activity from a lantern mantle etc.

BC517 datasheet
According the datasheet,BC517 has gain >30000.So that's why I choose it.

Or can I connect several general propose transistors together ?
