cockroft walton multiplier question

I have 6 diodes 12 kVolt and 6 capacitors 1.6 kV. I assume I can make a cockroft walton 6 X multiplier, but what is the maximum ac I can put on the entrance?

Remember that the peak of the AC has to be half the capacitor's rating. So assuming 1.6kV is your capacitor's maximum working voltage, your maximum input would have to be under (1600/2)/(1.41) = 567V.

If the 1.6kV rating is an AC rating, then that changes things...

EDIT: 567V is the AC RMS voltage

The capacitors must be rated at a minimum of twice the peak . So with your caps, you can have a peak input voltage of 800V or about 570V RMS.

Same with diodes? What is the max ac tension by a 1n4007?

The diode 1n4007 can stand 1kV, and you need the same voltage in the diodes than the voltage you have for the capacitors . You need two in series of these diodes for synthetize each diode in your multiplier.
