heh.. so you could use an induction heater to melt this stuff.
I can see this being incredibly useful for recycling as well as making repraps able to solder their own pcbs with minimal effort..

looks like making the required size of iron nanoparticles could be the biggest annoyance, maybe start with Fe2O3 (aka rust) and reduce it back to iron using graphite?

On the flip side, why not make your own using the recipe given, the cool part is that it should work almost as well using BiInSn low melt alloy yielding a user friendly alloy that melts at 60-70 degrees with applied RF induction field but can be shaped using permanent magnets.
The uses for such a thing would be incalculable.

Pyrolysis of iron oxalate will yield fine iron powder. fine enough to be pyrophoric.

Pyrophoric = cool

especically if you trap a bunch of terrrorists in a cave ( or a tank/APC ), with much fine powder + oxidizer and stand way back to see what happens.

the metalurgy has been an interest of mine for many years, and this is a good question, but the real deciding factor is whether in small percentage of bismuth, can influence the resistivity of the larger alloy electron matrix.

i need sleep... will thinkk about this with brain tomarrow.

AFAICS they didn't use nanoparticles ... -325 Mesh iron powder isn't that expensive.

The oxalate is required as it reduces the Fe 2+ to metallic iron during pyrolysis.
Oxalic acid can be bought in some hardware stores, or extracted from rhubarb leaves!
