Hi, im thinking of buying a pole pig from Sothern and Scottish electric distribution hows the best way to ask and will they sell old ones? also if anyonehas brought one, how easy was it? Thanks, Tom Williamson P.S. should this have went into sales and trade or HV areas?

If I were you I'd join the TCBOUK Yahoo group and ask there. Somebody might well have one for sale.
If you do ask Scottish & Southern, they might not even know what you're talking about. Pole pig is an Americanism, I think they are officially called distribution transformers.
I have seen one at a UK teslathon that started out as the smallest size, then had its casing cut down and smaller bushings installed, to reduce the oil volume and make it lighter. There were two carrying handles welded on top. I could barely lift it myself but couldn't walk any distance with it. Two people could lift it into the back of a van.
For any other unmodified "pig", you seriously need to consider shipping/transport. It might arrive on the back of a truck and you can't get it off without a forklift.

yes that might be a problem :S im not sure if i want a pig or not :S i want something that has a high ish voltage but a decent current mabye i should stay away from that level because im only 14 but im responsible enough its a bit mixed, mind you ive seen some tiny pole transformers, mabye il just wnd my own transformer i know a person who has alot of knowlage about transfomers ;)

I think your best and safest route would be to get a neon transformer. When I was 14 or 15 I got a 15kv/60ma one. They are still dangerous (lethal); a pole pig would be more than I can see a young teen handling in a safe manner.

A pole pig is defiantly not were you should start in HV. I'd suggest an NST and flybacks for at least a year. I wouldn't even suggest a pig to a 60 something adult if he had never dealt with HV before
