I just finished my "proper" ZVS driver today, all my previous ZVS drivers that blew up on me had the same issue and i just found that out a few days ago O.O so the zener diodes HAS TO BE 12 VOLTS, before i knew that, i was being cheap and scavenge random glass diodes from scrap circuit boards. no wonder the mosfets heats up so easily and explode! grr!grr!grr now that I have made a proper ZVS driver, it can drive an extra large projection TV FBT flawlessly. After 10 minutes of play time, teh FBT was warmed up a bit and the mosfets were still at room temperature. the arcs that I got from my FBT were about 3 or 4 inches and teh ignighting distance is about half an inch. and yes I was using 24 volts from two 18Ah SLA for my ZVS driver. I got 2 more 12Ah SLA batteries lying around... so would a 48 volt input for a ZVS driver such a good idea? and what other things can I do to increase the performance of my FBT.

If your flyback is heating up, that means you're reaching the limit of your flyback. For more power you could switch to an H-bridge. Shouldn't be that hard to convert what you have to a half-bridge. That will give you more control over the frequency and power.

If you want the driver to pull more current without raising the voltage, and are not too concerned with efficiency, there is a modification that apparently draws 35% more current. It is another 3+3 winding in parallel with the existing primary with 100 ohms in series with each winding, like this:
But really, if you want more power, i would suggest winding your own AC transformer on a larger U core for maybe 6kvac. Depending on many factors, 2kw would be easy with the driver, though, your capacitor would die. A CDE .68uf 1600v cap would be nice for that, those never even heat up for me.
