I'm more in awe of the femtosecond glass disk writer which will be in a computer in 50 years...
next step is to transform this in the way that it doesn't need to be "engraved" but the structures would just be created on the fly like with a magnetic bit on a hard disk platter, like with some light activated reversible reactions in the crystal or molecular structure

Now i can just imagine a future civilisation putting down some of their jewlrey onto some sort of reader accidently and finding the entire archive of redtube or somthing... well that would prove rather useful to them i suppose in learning about how the human race looks and reproduces....

Lol, you owe me a new keyboard!
I just fixed my laptop's DVDRW drive by surgically extracting what appears to have been an eyelash from its read assembly. If you are unlucky enough to have a failing drive this is well worth checking as often disks read best on the drive on which they were burned for some reason.
