Hi all. Well, this board is probably a lost cause but I figured what the heck.
Its an SN25 motherboard which developed chipset problems, such as the IDE ports not working any more. Eventually it stopped booting, keyboard unresponsive and no graphics.
Yes I checked for bad capacitors.
Attempted conventional reflow but the board now won't do anything when the power button is pressed. I suspected that the solder balls had migrated across which upon removing the chip revealed that this was the case.
As its a nice board it seems a shame to just trash it. There doesen't seem to be much damage to the underlying tracks, one of the lines for the PCIE graphics is open but I think this can be patched.
Has anyone managed to use alternate methods to fix these? It doesen't normally get that hot as its a chipset not a graphics chip.
I was exploring whether Z axis tape would work, this is also heat activated. Am pretty confident that it should be possible to keep the chip and board flat while the thermal profile is done.
