My computer keeps crashing!!!!

I have my computer dual booted debian and windows xp. It is a 3ghz dual core 64bit dell. My brother has been useing it alot latly and all of the sudded it crashes, and its getting worse, first i thought it was a virus but it is doing both on xp and linux!!

PLEASE HELP!!

I would;
-clean the internals - especially the cpu fan/heatsink which gets clogged up quite easily on some Dell computers as they use very fine fins for better cooling.
- if that's not the problem run a memory diagnostic.
- worst case buy a new HDD (can be used as a second HDD later for media etc)
and do a simple single OS install and see how that goes.

Take a look at the 'lytics in the CPU power switcher area, and see if any of the tops are bulging. They are notorious for going bad, and the resulting power supply errors cause anything from corrupted data to random crashes. A MoBo is about the same price as a HDD. My PC passed the Prime95 torture test but still randomly crashed, until I noticed those distended caps and changed the MoBo.

I have saved a few boards this way, usually if the board still boots at all then changing them will fix it.

WWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLL LLLLL, good news everyone... this is embaresing. MY VIDEO CARD WAS LOOSE AND CAUSING IT TO CRASH!!! amazed Im so glad is wasn't expensive to fix!
