Hi all.
This one has me totally stumped. I have two machines here which are stand alone (and networked together via a switch).

I also want to have the machines both running via the wireless network.
Problem is that if I enable the LAN, wireless stops working. You can ping the access point but there's no external access at all.

Even if I manually set IP addresses it still refuses to work. Yet two days ago it worked fine with the very same settings:-

192.168.1.11 for machine *1, 192.168.1.12 for machine *2. Other machines are on 192.168.0.* where * is between 2 and 24
Subnet is 255.255.255.0
I have confirmed that there is no visible conflict using ipconfig.

Anyone?
tks, -A

If you want to talk between the machines on 192.168.1.x and the machines on 192.168.0.x then you need the subnet mask set to 255.255.0.0. Either that or there has to be some device providing a gateway between the two subnets, and all the machines need to know the IP address of the gateway. (or rather the IP addresses, since I guess it has to have one for each side.) That's my understanding of it anyway.

What's the IP address of the access point?

Have you got MS Internet Connection Sharing or some other DHCP server running on anything? If it worked once and then died, that suggests that something got bad DHCP information from somewhere.

I would vote for conflicting dhcp info.... The wireless router? is probably trying to give addresses out, but the computer that was doing it before is still giving them out, causing problems.

The second problem is that you have both 192.168.1.* and 192.168.2.* That is a big mistake for home networks. You want everything to have the same ip address, except the last digit.
I use:
router-192.168.1.1
wired comps- 192.168.1.10-99
wireless comps-192.168.1.100-199
then set up the dhcp server to give addresses from 192.168.1.200-255

So you put any routers/printers/etc in the .2 to .9 range, wired computers in the .10-.99, wireless in the .100-.199 and if you have a friend come over they can get an address by dhcp

the subnet mask for that being 255.255.255.0 of course

good luck!

Hi.
I found something interesting, if one machine is set to manual lan (192.168.x.x) and the other is set to automatic it appears to work. If both are automatic it doesen't.

The wireless is still not working, displays symptoms of no DNS but it is configured correctly.
I've tried several different settings and still nothing.

Is there a way to set the router as the DNS?

Some routers have a dns passthrogh option, although I think that most of them do it on their own. When I want to use a static ip address I set my dns server as the router. Seems to work fine tongue

With the wireless, how do you have it connected to the network?

For than matter, how is everything connected? Could you give a general map of how it is connected? (looking for modem, switch (model?) , wireless (model?) and computers.
