Officially this is the end of my project, but I will of course work on it off and on during my free time. I was thinking that my house's circuit breaker could be the issue, any suggestions?

I'll be presenting my project next week at school for the presentation evening. These are the sections I think I'll include, by the way live firing doesn't seem possible (yet... xD)

Why I chose to do this project
How I did the project (Log)
What the results were
Live firing (if I can get permission and a plug!)
Difficulties and Solutions
Improvements and the ideal situation

Have I missed anything important?

you could add ''Future Implementation'' to your presentation to expose some positive usage of the coilgun in the future :)
and goodluck for the presentation!

Thanks for that good idea, I will do that especially since I researched into it last year. Although I won't go into detail, I'll only display things which I actually understand since I will be judged on the day.

Here is some (most) of the content for my presentation in pdf format in case anyone is interested or needs to give a presentation about coilguns cheesey although this is of course based on my project!

My coilgun has to pass some safety checks before I'm legally allowed to plug it in at school, apparently these are a 'grounding test' and a 'visual test' which I as far as I gather, it won't pass... D-:

Thanks for posting the report! I love reading those things.

What is the mass of the projectile? How many microfarads of capacitance?

Thanks! Barry

Its 9.62g and made of silicon steel but I don't know if its grain oriented or not...
5400uF at the voltages displayed but up to 450V

Here in my finalised report (log as the appendix)

]epq_report.pdf[/file]

Its exactly 5000 words, according to Word anyway, which is what everyone else has to write, I only had to write 1000 words cheesey since I made this coilgun...

The presentation went great, I think cheesey

I got ~20 people compared to some of my friends who chose less interesting topics who got 2... (examiner and supervisor).

Here is an update for page 10, efficiency was revised with respect to to an e-mail conversation from Barry from 2.56% to 1.8%. I would post it but I don't have time right now... and it's not really worth it.
