Can this transformer be of a use for a small battery powered tesla coil?
It was taken from a CFL electronic ballast circuit. I can also see that there is something written on it. It says 4,2MM thought i dont know what this might mean.

Thanks in advance!

P.S sorry for the blurry images.

Biochem,

Judging by the size if it, the answer is “no”. You need to use an auto ignition coil for your transformer in a battery powered tesla coil (it will give you at least 20,000 volts). I built a small tesla from an article in a 1961 Experimenter’s Handbook. It will do a nice one inch spark, and was a good place for me to start this hobby. Look on line for similar plans. Good luck!

I found a thread that the poster claimed that his SGTC was assembled with 2 camera circuit board transformers
Link2

So i suppose that a CFL transformer would work

Well, The first tesla coil I ever successfully built was a spark gap coil about 2 inches high, and it was powered by a cold cathode fluorescent lamp driver from a scanner. I would build a small 555 driver for this thing, an see what it's output voltage is.

So do you think that a normal CFL would do as a driver?

perhaps, but not well. It would be better if you used those giant based cfls, they are around 40-60 watts and weigh 1/2 of a pound

But in that way i would need to power my TC from the mains and not from batteries. Am i right?
