Im unsure if this thread already exists in the past, ive searched, but seems to be no results.
I always wondered, I hear the term "coiler" alot around people who built tesla coils, but just what actually makes someone a coiler? built more then one coil? loves tesla coils?
Kind of a wierd question, but Im curious about what people have to say on this.

I see it a term used to describe people who make tesla coils for a hobby. Someone who likes to make them, and spend time making them in an artistic way, or putting a lot of work / care into it.
I classify my self as one as im obsessed with Tesla coils, I can watch them for hours...Love playing with them, i sometimes put a isolated stick to the coil for 30 minutes just moving it around and seeing how it arcs. I also put a lot of time into it, and I currently own 6 secondarys, 2 in use.

It's when you build your first coil, that's when you are bit by the bug. You are a coiler after that. I remember my first coil, a flyback sgtc with 5:1 secondary ratio, or something liket that, I forget. But it gave a spark, even though a lousy spark it may have been.. But that is what gave me the love for machines that can shoot deadly electricity all over the place. Being a coiler is not something you learn. It's something you are born with. After I made my sucky sgtc, I wanted more power (because I had seen what streamers were like in real life with a total crap SGTC) and I built a half bridge SSTC, and holy shit!
Being a coiler means you are willing to look like a total wierdo to you neigbours, friends and family, while having the time of your life.
