I've been collecting them for years! Here's another one, a low pressure sodium streetlamp. I was playing around driving it off a RF amplifier at 27MHz.

Looks very like low pressure sodium, but I suspect not. I've some remarkably similar tubes stashed in the workshop - I'll have a look...

Wrong glow for neon (or a Penning mixture of neon & argon) - that's orange, maybe with a bit of purple if there is any mercury doping (anti-sputtering) in there...

My camera has shifted the colour somewhat. It is a neon lamp. (Or was. I accidentally broke it :( )

The question is, what sort of neon lamp, what was it used for?

I'm going to take a wild guess and say a stroboscope.

.And yeah, you can use the pics, but could you include a link somewhere to my site?
.

No problem, Grenadier. You can have your own page on there if you want. Your ZVS schematic is worthy of a place there too.

The idea is everyone gets their own page for their plasma related projects, but I'll definitely put a link to your ZVS schematic on there.

I'm just waiting for Walter to sort out the applets, we've got the domain name and server up and running a couple of months ago.

Guess the exact tube (hint they are the world's largest of their type, astonishingly rare, highly sought after, and very very expensive if you ever find one, let alone a set):
