Hi, I'm working in NY/NJ next week (just about to fly out now) and am after recommendations for good electronics parts suppliers? (short notice job and no time to get stuff together ) Particularly interested in anyone who can Supply Atmel micro's as well. Also not sure how much time I'll have but if there are any 4HV'ers in the area that fancy showing off their Tesla coil etc. one evening I may be up for a meetup?

Unfortunately, your best bets are the online suppliers. Digikey, Newark, Allied, Mouser, Future, RELL, etc... Not really a store you can visit physically that will have parts. Those days are long over.

When I order from BGmicro parts arrive in no more than 5 days, often 3. If you want things fast that's likely your best bet. I'm not sure if they carry amtel chips though. Also, now's your chance to buy things that UK customs would snatch, like the SSY-1.

As someone who lives in New York and is going to school right on the Jersey side of the Hudson River, I can tell you that online ordering is the only way to go... unless you just need something small like a 555 timer, resistor, capacitor, or small transistor in a hurry, in which case most Radio Shacks can help.... but that'll still be four times as expensive as ordering online.
Digikey is probably the most comprehensive component carrier, but it ships all the way from California.

Ouch! we're spoilt in the UK, being a nice small country pretty much everything is next day, maybe 2 days.
The Atmels were more of a nice to have contingency, I have some with me so should be OK. As for anything else, Radioshack will probably do. Any recommendations of out of the ordinary (i.e. non-tourist) places to visit, e.g. surplus shops etc?
