I would like to know if there would be any issues with RF from Tesla Coils or other sources that might interact with metal implants inside a person. I’m just wondering because I am beginning to design my first Coil and I have a small surgical steel coil (about the size of a pin spring) in my heart from a surgery back when I was 5, and I don’t want anything bad happing that I might not know. For a wile my cardiologist was worried about strong magnets, but that ended up not being an issue I had and MRI done and no ill affects other then the fact that it interfered with the MRI and there is a black cloud where my heart is.

So my main question is it relatively safe for me or other who has surgical metal implants to work with Tesla Coils?
Any advice would be great.
thanks

Can't guarantee that it would be safe.

Ask them to send you another coil the same, put it near a Tesla coil and see if it gets hot.

well it tooks us avary long time to figure out what it was, it was about 13yr ago (basicly we guesss and found out with a MRI)
so trying to to find one whould be hard.

DISCLAIMER : I do not know the answer, you will have to decide.

I would think that if an MRI caused you no harm a TC should be safe as the frequencies and e.m. field strength of a TC are orders of magnitude less than an MRI
and since a TC operates at such a long wavelength compared to the physical dimensions of the implant the implant would not be an efficient antenna/resonator.
The surrounding body fluids would also probably dampen any significant resonances.

I would certainly stay away from microwave sources due to the wavelength being near to the physical dimensions of the insert.

I suspect that any medical advice would be not to expose yourself due to possible legal liabilities, so you will not get the 'truth' there.

I AM NO EXPERT but if I was in your position I would wear grounded chainmail or something that would shield my torso. HOWEVER, just like everyone else is saying, there is no guarantee that you will be safe.

I strongly doubt there would be any effect considering the rest of the body is fairly conductive as well. The only thing that would be a problem is for active devices like pacemakers, insulin pumps, etc.

thank you, i think that an mri would couse more damage, but i what about people with larger implants like screws and plate rods

Unless the object is inside the primary or very close
the rf field is too weak for significant induction heating.

Arcs'n'sparks cause impulsive rf,
but the TC itself is a surprisingly poor rf radiator.
