Hello everybody,

question about the coil in serie with the mazzilli driver,
should it be iron ore ferrite core, and how much inductance should it be?

I am going to run from 11.1 volts lipo battery 2+2 turns, complete primary coil is 10uH

is it true that the inductance has to be 10 times bigger than the primary inductance?

This inductor (I'll call it Ldc, dc inductor) in a textbook 'ideal' situation
would have such high inductance that the ac ripple current in the inductor
(due to the waveform at the primary resonant inductor center tap)
is negligible compared to the dc current.

This is why the 'proper' name for a zvs/Mazzilli etc. is Current Fed Parallel Resonant CFPR

A practical Ldc would have to pass the peak current without satuating or overheating
Generally the dc current heats the wire and the ac curent heats the core and the wire
For 10's to 100's of kHz iron powder or gapped ferrite is required. (or air)

As the Ldc inductance is decreased (lower value OR due to saturation)
then the CFPR oscillator moves towards becoming a blocking oscillator,
which may give more output but heat the core(s) too much.

Tritium, I've had good success with a 1in diameter ferrite core wound with 20 turns of 2 strands of 24 gauge magnet wire. I used two strands simply because I didn't have anything thicker.

Although since you're using 4 turns on your primary instead of 10 you may have to try a different number of turns to get ideal operation. I believe that, within limits, the more inductance the higher the output voltage will be at the expense of current and visa versa.

The inductor is just an LF choke. Choose a size that will have sufficient reactance at the oscillator frequency. XL = 2Ï€fL
