dumb question

If I have a 400khz tesla coil sending power to a identical reciver, will the diode of the reciver have to be rated to handle 400khz?

Ps how to you convert khz into u. seconds?

Yes the detector will need to be able to operate at 400 kHz. Dont worry about it, a Razor blade and a pin could detect it,

time to frequency l/f = time l/time = frequency. Reason: Frequency is a dimentionless measure 1/400,000 Hz = 0.0000025 seconds or 2.5 microseconds.

It isn't a dumb question-- Physics and radio instructors lay traps using that and the speed of light in basic exam questions !

If the frequency to time conversion question pertained to the diode's reverse recovery and such, you'll need a reverse recovery that is a good bit faster than 2.5 uS, since that is the time it takes for an entire cycle to complete, rather than just change polarity. Those 75 nS ones, or ultra-fast as they are called, should do the trick.

They say a second is dimentionless. ( did not look that up when I wrote the original post) does 1/second make it a dimention?

My use of the word was to indicate something which cant be measured like a volt or amp can without the definition falling back to itself.

The dimensionless "seconds" referred to in that link are seconds of arc, a measurement of angle.

The seconds you get on your watch aren't dimensionless, they have a dimension of, believe it or not, time. Hence, frequency isn't dimensionless either, it has a dimension of 1/T.

I think that's what radiotech meant by a "trap". Frequency is the rate of change of phase angle, so angle divided by time. Angle is the dimensionless thing.

The 'trap' question was along these lines:

Two transmitters are sending a signal to a city 40 miles away. The first operates at 200 Khz and the second at 500 kHz. Which signal arrives first at the city and what time period passes before the second arrives?

do you have a ultra fast diode in mind? one that can handle the high wattage of a tesla coil reciving system.


Do you think this will make a good science project? my question is, is wireless energy using tesla coils caused only by magnetic fields? I know the answer, no, but it will look good to my teacher!!!! cheesey
