So my 9 year old Son wanted me to take him to see The Sorcerer's Apprentice at the $1 theater in town, so we went...

I had no idea, but the 20 year old kid in the movie is a 'physics geek' who spends all him time building Tesla Coils in an old subway turnaround station. He's got several, ranging from table-top models all the way to the biggest ones I've ever seen firing (like maybe 15 feet tall?). He even uses the big ones modulated to music to 'get the girl' (now what hot chick wouldn't be impressed with that...lol)

My Son got a big kick out of it every time they showed one or mentioned one..."hey dad, that's what you are building!"

Just an OK movie, but interesting use of the Tesla Coils...pleasant surprise to see them used so much in the film. There was a lot of realistic stuff (and some not so realistic) but cool at any rate.

Considering they were striking all around the actors at different times, I wouldn't doubt it...

I will say there were several coils that looked to be constructed correctly...but, there was also a scene where some lamp posts suddenly acted like TC's by simply running high power wires up to the top of them...

I just thought it was cool that they featured prominently in the story.

But then, I also thought having Tesla in The Prestige was cool too...

YA, I saw the movie and thought it was good. Some parts of it are clearly not true..Such as the coil mounted to the car...It goes 6 ft infront of the car to hit a guy, vs the car that was only 2ft away from the topload...They also have maybe 10 coils of wire around a lamp post, and supposedly that can make 20ft streamers.

But that's the only reason I even saw the movie, was to see the tesla coils. The musical coils, sounded like real recorded clips.

Anyone else noticed how they made the picture below, into the movie? They showed it twice, just without tesla of course :)

They actually later in the movie used it to trap whats his name to the thing, by bending the copper around his arms.
