I've been reading a bit online about Antimatter and I'm reading conflicting arguments over the polarity of their mass. Is it negative or not. If it is negative does it get replused by gravitational forces?
According to Hawking radiation, tiny subatomic particles (particle antiparticle pairs) can spontaneously exist out of nothing and then annihilate each other. Now if the antiparticle had negative mass then it would not violate the law of conservation of energy. The energy required to make the pair would be zero because their masses cancel out.
E = MC^2 E = (M + -M)c^2 = zero.
Furthermore, if the particles appeared on the event horizon of a black hole, the antiparticle would fall in but not the other. That explains why black holes give off radiation and eventually sizzle out and die.
Yet also I read that there is no evidence to suggest that antimatter has negative mass, and that it does have positive mass. How can Hawking radiation be explained if antimatter had positive mass? Spontaneous particle-antiparticle pairs could not exist because they would violate COE.

The mass of antimatter is measured and studied every day in different experiments and it has always come out as positive.
Even if one particle out of two falls into the black hole, twice the energy has already been "borrowed" from the gravitational field of the black hole to make two virtual particles become real particles.
There is no sensible way of imagine how it works in detail, you have to do the proper math to see what is going on. The problem is that the math is known to be incomplete and may be far from reality. A lot of tricks have to be done to remove singularities from the solution so an answer can be obtained.
