Indoors on this raining day, i decided to make up a classical musical mystery quiz. These are some of my most favorite classical pieces i enjoy playing on the piano. See if you can guess the composers and titles of each piece. The difficulty in naming the pieces ranges from stupid easy to very difficult, but all the pieces are mainstream and nothing is obscure. All pieces are also by highly prominent composers which are well known by most everyone.

Ohh, I wish I was as cultured as you, EVR I'm going to guess the first one is Beethoven's "Moonlight" Sonata, number 7 looks like something by Yngwie Malmsteen, and I haven't a clue about the others.

Well I have played piano since 5 years old, and this year Im taking the Amus exam, so ill have a go...
#3 is Debussy- Deux Arabesques no. 1 (Had to play this millions of times for a number of concerts..) #4 looks suspiciously like something by Mozart or Haydn #7 is Rachmaninoff- Prelude Op32 No 12 #9 looks like another crazy thing by Chopin or Rachmaninoff...
and I have no idea about the rest... I'm suprised how clean your music is though... I usually scribble fingering everywhere so that it locks into my head.

Joe,
Number 5 is the Aria from the Goldberg. Nice job.
Penguin,
Correct on 3 and 7. #4 is Mozart also. Also, surpised you didn't get #6, especially considering you are a hardcore pianist. Probably one of the most played pieces by this one composer.
Also, i do tend to write a lot in my books, but these just happened to somewhat clean. Usually the baroque stuff, like Bach, gets the most mark-ups with fingering etc...

Nup, have to admit I have no idea what #6 is... I bet i'll be hitting myself when someone gets it though.
I guess over the years I've mainly stuck with playing the exam pieces, but only recently been 'exploring' other random pieces just for sight reading practise.

Vers la flamme by Scriabin is my favorite. Such a hardcore piece. If you haven't heard this yet, check it out. Very difficult and quite percussive, but its quite a piece!
