Soft Switching in non-DRSSTC SSTC

So I was working on a capacitor charging power supply, based on the topology discussed at Link2 .
I was thinking about testing the driver with a cw SSTC with a resonant capacitor in series with the primary. It prevents resonant rise but still makes life easier on the semiconductors, or so it would seem. Am I incorrect in that assumption? If so, why hasn't anyone done this?

If you look at the current waveform in a standard SSTC, you'll notice that the switching already takes place near zero current (depends on tuning/phase shift when using feedback).

Your coil would still be a drsstc, you are simply turning the current off after the first half cycle. I have tried this approach before for both regular operation and audio modulation, neither produced great results...

Oh, that's a shame....
I suppose it would have two resonant circuits. I guess I meant non-conventional DRSSTC.

why not drive it at 100khz insted of 50k? is the secondary resonant at 100khz?

The secondary would be 50kHz, while the primary would be tuned to 100kHz in this mode of operation. The primary resonates naturally through the freewheel diodes but the driver prolongs current flow in one direction after the resonant circuit has emptied itself, preventing resonant voltage rise. That way you are running it at 50kHz but with 50% dead time.

At least that's how I think it works...

I don't understand how average SSTCs can be close to ZCS when there is so much more uncoupled inductance than mutual inductance in the primary circuit... The load should look almost completely reactive with such a loosely coupled system as an air-core transformer, shouldn't it?
