I have a HFBR-1412T fiber optic transmitter and am planning to use it on the output of EasternVoltageResearch's 555 timer basic modulator to couple it to Steve Ward's DRSSTC driver and was reading the datasheet for the part to figure out how to wire it but the datasheet shows a part in the circuit diagram labeled 1/2 75451. It looks like a NAND gate with an NPN transistor on the output. Can anyone tell be what this part is? The datasheet I was looking at is www.avagotech.com/docs/AV02-0525EN. Thanks!

Very simple. The HFBR1412 is a transmitter. Its basically just a diode. Easiest way to drive it is through a MOSFET gate driver powered via +5V. The output of the gate driver (i.e. UCC37322) should connect to first a parallel network 56.2 ohm, 330pF, and a 1N4148 diode (cathode connected to gate driver output) in series with the anode of the HFBR1412. A protection diode of 1N4148 should be placed across cathode / anode of the HFBR 1412.
The output is just an open collector output on the HFBR2412. There should be a sample circuit in the app notes.
