Hello All!

I have just completed my latest version of a single stage halfbridge coil gun & wanted to show it off!

I have spent the last twelve months working on it (on & off)

Booster is based on a UC 3483 pwm controller IC.
Capacitor bank is 19 x 140uF 300V flash capacitors connected in parallel.

Switching is done by a high & low side driver ic (IR2110) & drives two banks of 5 IGBT's.

Control is managed by a Picaxe 20X2 running at 32 Mhz.
Puklse length, injector solenoid pulse & delay coil activation delay are all programmable via the front panel.

I'm using small bearings as ammo because they're cheap, uniform in size & readily available.
Framwork was drawn up in my PCB program & sent to a laser cutting company.
This is the first PC board I have had made professionally & I'm very pleased with the result!

With the coil in the picture I am getting 105 FPS.
I know it is capable of more, but I have to find the time to wind another coil!

Once main caps are charged, I can fire a shot every two seconds.

Have attached pictures.

Enjoy!

WOW! That Looks awesome! VERY NICE! The PCBs look fantastic! Post the efficiency plz =3

Almost everything about is perfect but if you used nails you would probaly get better efficiency =3

But WOW this is a great looking coilgun. You should be proud!

Thank you GhostNull!

I regret I don't have the math no-how to calculate efficiency.

I'd hazard a guess that its pretty low.

My goal was to make a coilgun had a reasonable cycle rate & an automatic loading mechanism.

I added a bit of bling along the way!

Have to tidy up the laser wiring on RHS also.......

Seriously, that is the nicest looking coilgun I have seen so far! All of my coliguns and circuitry are ugly looking as they are simply slapped together just so I can shoot stuff shades

I have to agree with ghostnull, using nails or steel rods will work far better than steel bearings. But still if you want to play it around with your mates and don't want to do much damage and harm, it is good enough as it is.

Great job!
