I have heard of this before but are Mod T spark coils even available as per the original design as working systems? I've seen these: But Many do not indicate whether they are simply old examples or functional. They look seriously beat and are seemingly too cheap to be true.....

You'd have to buy one to find out. Most, I suspect are good.The reason is simply back then no one kept a bad one. Also the points set was available seperately. They can be opened and repaired-- the wood box is full of black tar.
Also they were used years after Kettering Ignition for other things. I found 2 in a naval Pelorus chart recorder. We used an earphone ground fault tester that used a Ford assembly to trace shorts in power cables,
Note the weight extension on the interrupter of the coil to slow it down from a buzz to a pulse.
Note the Gernbacks books were reprinted 30 years ago by Lindsay Publications in their original booklet form., however I am scanning an original with expired copyright,(1938) not the reprint.
