The reason I asked how many connections on the alt, if you only have one terminal, you could be right about the alt not having any field regulation. That would only be reasonable for a permanent magnet alternator. But never mind that, you said it has two terminals (in addition to ground). So in spite what you said about it having a 10 to 20 volt output which is then regulated, I have my doubts. So it's a Case tractor. You need to find out about the electrical system because the regulator you are planning to build might not work. Try googling it. I found one link to a discussion board with a thread about a problem similar to yours I don't have time to do your research for you. Find out more, or just go ahead and take shots in the dark, whatever works for you.
