I just geeked myself.

Didn't your parents or priest warn you how easily it can become habit forming, an all-consuming obsession that can lead to blindness and insanity if not firmly checked at an early stage?

So if it's a multiplier is that good or bad for just making sparks? I'm not as tech adept as some of you. How do you think it might be implemented. If it's a multiplier than that black wire should be ground right? What schematic do you recommend. I've figured out that the primary as 3 coils, so I just pick a couple to serve as the primary and feedback right?

Here are some better pictures to aid the debate. :)

If it where a multiplier, i do not think the input and output wires would be that close together, with tens of Kv potential difference...

Measure the capacitance between the input red wire and the black wire, you should read something like 3nf, and if it has an internal resistor, you can measure the value by measuring resistance across the input and output wires.

It is a high voltage multiplier with focus divider. here are the typical schematics from NTE 11.

edit: try going to the NTE site and entering the numbers on it.

i am almost certain it is what radiotech describes above, focus, multi-taps and such, so it may not be useful for what you plan Xplorer. maybe you could get your dentist or vetranarian to x-ray it for you.

FOr me it looks like a HV capacitor + resistor (like in a projection TV) with a ground-wire.

The tripler I have got a input wire that is a lot less isolated (for instance: 8 kv p-p), while it looks like that module got 25-30 KV input & output. (thus I would not expect a tripler, since the input cable looks a bit too high voltage for that, like TV-30 / TV-40 (30 KV / 40 KV))

Do the cable actually have markings?

The resistor may protect the capacitor & flyback diodes to some extent, if you want a arc then remove it (or just don't ground the black wire), if you want load "snaps" you better keep it and ground the black wire.

You can even measure relative voltage changes by measuring the current in the black wire compared to ground.

Try seperating the two parts, Then measure the resistance from the orange wire coming from the transformer end to the pins on the bottom to see if you have a metalic return.

Okay, so I hooked it up to my now finished ZVS driver. I'm running the driver at 15v to get an estimated 8-10kv. I connected the that black wire to ground.

It created some very thin and "staticy" sparks. The frequency at which the sparks fired depended on the distance of the gap. However, the gap itself was not any longer than if I hadn't hooked it up. So it's definitely some sort of capacitor but I don't think it's a multiplier, well in any case the voltage doesn't seem any higher. Compared to the sparks the bare ZVS makes it's not an improvement.

I'll try to get a video up.
Okay, here are some videos.
This is my ZVS at 15v (~10kv out), this is what I'm putting through the mystery item. Link2
Here is it in action, pretty dull. Link2
And for kicks my ZVS at 40v (~20kv or so out) Link2

I'll prolly just bin it. Besides I think I burned out a cap in there. Notice how sometimes the acrs were crackly, then it would go fuzzy.

Please excuse the weird bumps, my camera doesn't like HV.

its probablly as others have said a Resistor,Capacitor and Diode thingy (no increase in voltage, as one other has said the wires are to close) before you bin it for the next three years why not just cut it off (in such a way you can reattach it if you like.) then compare your 'with it ' data to your 'without it' data. Its probably for wave-pulse shaping. also, if your sure youve murdered it, then cut it open. I use disc sanders to un-pot stuff.
