From what I remember the exposure was about a second with the camera resting on a wall. It was just an average digital cam, not particularly sensitive and yes they're that bright though far more impressive than the photo shows.

There's virtually no light pollution here as the nearest town is 10 miles away but it's been cloudy every night this week so no chance this year.
