I have just noticed my nice shiny 2 star 'rating' And was just wondering, How are these rewarded? I've noticed that some people have more stars than people who have more posts... Does anyone know? Thanks :)

I had thought you were correct; in that the forum software can be set for awarding a star at the 20,40,60,80 post &, 100 post point simply to keep track of contributions per se'. That's really all it would mean. You have a conversation in a thread wherein you are back & forth with someone; you've interacted 10 times ect. But look how you have 190 I have 347 or whatever.......I think that a simple reply is not enough to trigger the counting mechanism.

There was an older thread that had the equation that involved the post count and the site visits. I thought it was Chris Russell who posted the equation but I might be wrong. I couldn't find it. I've had 10 stars for a while with less than 1000 posts because of the number of visits to the site.

Here's the relevant formula used to determine ranking:
[(number of posts * 5) + (number of comments * 5) + (number of visits to the site)]/ 4
Basically, visiting the site five times is the same as making one post, as far as the rankings are concerned. So, in the case of big5824 and quicksilver above, the post counts seem to conflict with the overall ranking. However, looking at the profile, you can see why the rankings are the way they are: big5824 has visited the site 1713 times, compared to only 439 for quicksilver.
That said, that doesn't necessarily mean that big5824 visits the site more than quicksilver -- the site only counts it as a visit if the user hasn't been to the site in an hour. So, you could check 4hv.org every 45 minutes from sunrise to sunset, and only log one visit per day.
It's a rather silly system. I wouldn't worry about it too much; we'll soon be free of it.
