I have been painstakingly searching the web for places to purchase a toroid for my coil. I was thinking that there are probably quite a few other people looking for the same thing. So, maybe everyone can post a link to known places to purchase a toroid so that rookies like myself have a better chance of finding what they are looking for...

I will start this off with one that was recommended to me.

No idea, but I would stay a million miles away from any site selling "Psychic Energy Detectors", "Lakhovsky Multiwave Healing Machines", or "Telekinetic Enhancers".

That is funny! I had not noticed that! I guess sometimes you have to sell whatever stupid people will buy...

Information Unlimited is fine for ordering toroids. They usually have a good number in stock and their prices are competitive with anyone else selling them. They also have a good range of sizes stocked.

This place usually gets a bad rap (mostly from individuals on pure science forums, such as 4hv) for selling pseudoscience stuff and selling plans that are readily available on the internet, but hey, this is America pal. Land of the free and the Capitalism capital of the world.

Just give those guys a call and see if something is in stock before you place an order, but i've talked with probably at least a hundred customers who have successfully purchased toroids of varying sizes from this group.

Other sources to consider:

Resonance Research - DC Cox usually has some BIG toroids in stock to sell. He also does bulk buys from time to time on the Pupman TCML forum.

John Freau - John makes VERY nice smaller toroids for a great price. He is an amateur and makes an exellent product - so be sure to support him and buy toroids from. He usually has ads on the Pupman TCML forum or you can search GOOGLE for "John Freau" toroids.

I once called then (Information Unlimited) asking if they could ever get "custom" or off sized toroid and they did call their supplier and got back to me (which was nice). They ALSO occasionally will sell some"factory seconds" for much less than their standard cost (& we're just talking about scratches on aluminum....). However you need to talk to one specific guy there (the guy who does the "tech support"). If you get the gal who generally answers the phone she is not so helpful (IMO).

There is another element that MAY have some appeal. If you shop in certain kitchen supplies there are several designs of kitchen-ware that when two are bolted together form a toroid (I think they are for small servings of sauce or something). Additionally, there are toroids all round you if you start to simply notice where they are......it's a strange thing to isolate them (the shape) as you go through your day.....but they are out there.....

I will vouch for John Freau! I have one of his toroids and it is perfect!
John is a true craftsman! If you want it to look amazing get it from him, no question!

Ok, So someone send me a link, or tell John that I want to purchase one of his toroids. I prefer to support the community whenever possible!

I too can vouch for John's toroids.
i purchased two from Information Unlimited and they both arrived
with dents and scratches on them even though the boxes were in tact with no obvious signs of mis-handling (both ordered on different dates)
I then ordered one from John Freau and it was excellent!!

How do they make a 'seamless' toroid?

I'm guessing you have to make it in two halves so the only solution is to do a really good job of joining them so the join is hard or impossible to see?
