Hi all.
Just found a very interesting paper published in the American Institute of Physics journal, which describes a device that in theory should generate HFGWs by using a circular array of magnetrons driving an array of wafer scale film bulk acoustic resonators (FBARs) focussing the generated energy by means of a superconducting lens.
Yes, I am aware that it hasn't been built yet however the approach they are using is to use existing components in a new way (FBARs are used in mobile phone handsets for example)
interestingly I was not aware that a superconductor could focus anything, has anyone else run into this?

Unfortunately even if they can generate anything detectable (we are talking about billionths of an atomic diameter deflection) the effect would need a massive device to work at all.
Just to keep this in perspective, commercial accelerometers routinely measure tenths of an atomic diameter to detect orientation and acceleration, but at this level of accuracy noise becomes very hard to control. Its a bit like trying to measure the light from a 5mW red laser pointer a mile away in full sunlight...

probably best to lock this thread, as it seems that the proposed generator cannot generate anywhere near a level of HFGWs to be detectable if it even works at all.
Interestingly the proposed interaction of a superconductor with a generated HFGW is speculative at best, as such an effect would have been seen long ago.
