12ms seems kinda slow, I dont think it would exceed the di/dt, problem is probably the action integral. Also, what circuit do you have? Do you have anti parallel diodes? Current and voltage limiting on the gate?
Also the S8035k has only a 500A pulse rating. which is even less than what you have right now. If you dont want to go thru the trouble of putting SCRs in parallel, I would suggest finding a used semikron brick on ebay. SKKT132-12E or something like that.

Unless he wasn't using any inductor in the test circuit, I'd say it's highly unlikely the di/dt was exceeded.
So, why don't we take a look at this test circuit aarp card holder? Also, tell us what makes you think the other SCRs are faulty. If we are to help you, we need more information. As for SCR alternatives, I found this one on Newark for $16.21.
50RIA120PBF 1200V 1490A surge current
There are many others to choose from. Just do a parametric search for what you want.
would rather play it safe and get a good SCR rather than "stacking" several smaller ones. especially as you will pay less for the c358n than you will for the 50RIA120 . c358n are currently on ebay and are being sold in pairs, they are going for a really good price (auction). i got 4 for less than £20. they are rated at 240A @ 800V. ITSM, 50Hz: 3.2KA.
i used a 50RIA120 in a portable 400V, 6000uF cap bank. it died on the first shot @ only 200V. replaced it with a c358n and it handles the full 400V discharges no problem.
