heh.. you'd think that the new multi-GB chips would be more sensitive to this.
Interestingly it seems that ESD can cause very similar problems, for example making a chip more sensitive to temperature rises etc.
Having had at least one failed RAM chip (worked fine for months then PC kept BSOD'ing) I wonder if it was damaged when originally installed at the factory.. ?
when i get time i might try and run a read/write algorithm on a '4164 RAM chip to see how many bit flips a known radiation source causes.

I had a Canon EOS10D SLR camera purchased in 2003 that developed lit pixels with long exposures, and I still have a Sony VX2000 DV that started displaying a single lit pixel when the camera was used on a hot day. Wonder if these are radiation-induced.

It would seem quite possible according to TH-1087, wouldn't it, but I s'pose there's no way of establishing that any particular blemish occurred in this way, which may well be a tempting let-out for careless quality controllers.
