I have been using a zvs mazilli driver for a while... I just connected a new flyback to the driver. When the flyback is disconnected from the circuit the reading from the mains transformer output is 24v. However when I connect the flyback the reading at the mains transformer output is 118v!??? What could be causing this? I have tested all of the components and they seem to be functioning. I am at a loss...
I have tried two separate psu's and am getting the same results. The driver also seems to work fine with a smaller flyback that I have. How could the flyback cause this to happen?

i think there are 2 possibilites.
first, high freq harmnonics are fooling ur DMM, and there is not really 118 volts present.
second, there might be some inductive kick back or some other type of HV feedback being returned to your LV input. in which case there is 118 volts present.

well put some protection in anti parallel may be to quench the HV like MOV's or TVS's, if it goes away then you know the 118 was really there before your addition of TVS's

dont be, this is hard enuff when your an ace EE like me.
TVS's are transient voltage supressing diodes, they ba have like zeners, but much faster, pico socnds, and much quiter then zeners. so in your caseyou want 40v TVS's on your 24volt side, and any time the voltage on your low side goes near or above 40 volts it will conduct, with an internal voltage drop of about 40V, so long as the transient exists. thus your low side is said tobe clamped at 40volts insteadof 118 volts, and sooner or later at 118 voltas you will blow something out, you do nead to corretct this state.

Thanks! Any ideas how a flyback might cause this problem? Not sure if it matters but on this flyback the horizontal and vertical adjustments were not on the flyback. There were two wires connected to the flyback that i cut that were connected to a small adjustment box.

the adjustment box i dont think would matter. i like the simple flybacks with a single primary, and single secondary for this reason. but be that as it may be, i think one of you primaries is coupled back to your low voltage side, it is either that or you have inductance somewhere, kicking back.

I'm pretty sure your DMM is acting weird. There is no way how there could be 118V on the output of your 24V transformer, and that the transistors could survive that without silicon chips in your ceiling
My power meter did also read 5800W while running my little PL504 VTTC.
