The UF4007 also has about 75ns Trr. I've used them in SMPS circuits at 60kHz.

My concern is the flyback hv output frequency. Will the higher frequency be an issue? I dont have an oscope to test frequency and this is a bit above my level of knowlege...

Also, what is the main difference between the sf1600 and uf4007 other than voltage?

1n4007's are dog slow, so they are great at 50 or 60Hz, any higher frequency and they're toast.

@ steve mcconnor, yeah the uf4007 are good, but they arnt avalanche rated, for being seriesed.

Thank you everyone! I think that I will go with the SF1600's and give them a try. Thanks patrick for spotting the fact that the uf4007's are not avalance rated. I didn't notice that.

one thing that pisses me off is that none of the 1n4007 diode makers list a trr, they just state 50/60 cycle curves. but i always asume they are slower than molasis.

i know exactly what you mean! I looked through atleast 10 different datasheets before giving up on them!

the microsemi quotes 2.0 uS for trr at 0.5 Forward current, Ir 1.0 amps, Irr 0.25 amps, 2uS is slow as shit compare to a 50kHz square wave of 20uS. lets say 10uS up 10uS down = 20uS, well 2us is 20% of 10uS, therefore it heats up and blows shit.
