Okay, so i built an x-ray machine, and it worked, and i dismantled it. It was too scary.

So, now i want to build a tesla coil, and i want to go big. Don't discourage me. I'm great with electronics, but i have no idea where to start this one.

What i have;

2x 25ma 15000V NST's

About 2000 feet of enamel wire (i need to find my calipers to measure OD, but i think it's 24ga or 26ga.

I was thinking a MMC, or a salt water cap.

At any rate, where do i start?

The answers are:
1. Google.com
2. The 4HV archives (where your exact questions have been answered in great detail, many times over).
3. Link2

After you take the time to do some research on your own, and understand what resonance is, what the component parts of a Tesla coil are, and the function each of these components, then you will be ready to ask specific questions about the design of your TC, construction and tuning.

750W NST input power and saltwater capacitors will not exactly be going big, look through others work to get an idea of what is needed.

In in a Spark Gap Tesla Coil there is the rough estimate for a tuned and good constructed SGTC that the spark length is approximately 1,7 x sqrt(input power).

So that is 117 cm for your two transformers and less if you use saltwater capacitors.

As said, you start by reading :) This is a good start: Link2

Size isn't everything, I know, but 2 x 25mA 'big'? All mouth and trousers, more like it! cheesey

Even from a 'professional's' standpoint i think a 1 meter spark could be called big, but that depends on overall efficiency (1M is not big if it took 25kw to do so, otherwise complete noobs would build coils that are impressive, because any coil can get a meter spark with 50kw) and coil type. A meter spark with a normal CW sstc is incredible!.

1m is fairly big to me, even though i have been messing with the idea of Tesla coils for some 3 years. I guess it varies from person to person.

So all in all, just do not expect your first coil to be incredible.

And yea, just another opinion, go to google for answers. It no longer takes a ride to the library to figure something out, just google it and your results will appear in some .1 seconds:-P.

Good luck with all your future endeavors wink
