Here is the bi-lingual data sheet with characteristic curves for the Russian GU5B triode valve, from which the component values and cooling requirments can be readily derived:

The socket is one of those forced air types, so you'll save a lot of money, and probably do a better job, by making it yourself.

Many VTTCs uses the same oscillator, a class C armstrong. You can see a example of my VTTC here, there is some good information and links to other VTTC related sites you should read.

You never know untill you push it too far!!:-D
Some people put 4kvolts on a 811a and it's only rated to 1500 volts.

according to vasil
the tube will take a full 8kv thats real good news because i wasnt happy with my current spark length only 10 inches but that was with only 1 mot ive now upgraded to 2xmot in series with a doubler and the sparks are much longer at only half way up the variac only thing is im not sure my short secondary will allow me to use fulll power , it may strike the primary or the feedback coil
im toying with the idea of putting the tickler inside the secondary has anybody tried this

How well did the duel mots work? I am working on a duel 811A and was thinking about using a 3400v transformer that I have from an old heathkit HA-10
