Oidium: A Maker Faire just recently took place in the CA bay area. I did some high voltage stuff in Santa Barbara, though I haven't touched it in a while. I believe that the student IEEE club was doing some slightly more organized stuff, 4hv member '...' was involved with that.

I'd hate to meet one of your not-so-good friends. =P

Thank you Mattski! If you come across anything happening in the near future I would appreciate hearing about it!

It is true. The electronics community is beginning to focus on smaller, low voltage circuits. Everything is getting smaller and smaller and all of the good stuff is being forgotten!

From what I know there is just one other hobbyist at the university where I study EE that like to play with high energy electronics and systems. Just two people in 350 at electronics engineering. You also notice this in the subjects you get all geared towards small and mostly digital stuff. We hardly get any analog electronics anymore frown

The only thing that I've been doing so far is programming and learning math. Just 10% electronics . . .

While working at Al Lasher's Electronics for a summer job last year, I met some ham hobbyists. I've also met some ham hobbyists at the LARK ham fest. Even though I haven't done many ham things, I still enjoy talking to them about electronics in general or their projects. There seem to be a few hobbyists in the Bay Area but I haven't really found anyone who messes with high voltage and tesla coils. They mostly tend to like the audio devices and such.

hi Myke, I go into Al Lasher's once in a while and they know me by name. If you want and if others want maby we could start a BATC meeting. Anybody interested send a mesage through the forum.

I tend to agree with what others have had to say. There's so few of us that it's hard to really get involved with local hobbyists. Living near a university tends to help, especially if the university has a large engineering program. Other than that, your best bet to meet up with fellow 4hvers is at a Teslathon.
