transformer parameters to decrease heating

 		Right now I have bundled 16 strands of #16 magnet wire, and I wrapped this cable around the core 18 times. Would it make a difference if I wrapped 16 individual pieces around 18 times? I would splice the ends together, of course. If there is no difference, I could probably wrap more strands around, and make them tighter to the core.

I am not sure if wrapping the wire individually affects the inductance of the transformer, or how well it performs.
