Thanks very much for the scans, and thanks for the software advice too.
My tank seems to be working significantly better at high temperature (had to settle for 70C-75C), and maybe boiling the water helped, but the washing up liquid made no difference. Perhaps the higher temperature helped tune the resonance. I used a large sheet of foil and it showed a very uneven distribution of holes: some large areas where completely eaten away whilst other areas barely showed any effect. One transducer appears to be more effective than the other. Testing it on some real jobs, overall I'm much happier with the tank used this way but I'm keen to investigate the circuit now I have one as an example.
I'm also going to build an acoustic foam lined box!
