I just picked up one of Eastern Voltage Researches new 4mhz coil kits. I have one of the first ones and love it so much that i decided to get the new one. This is a very cool kit!! What you get basically is everything you need to complete the entire build! This kit also has step by step instructions so you really can't screw it up. Every component is referenced in the instructions so for those who are not really familiar with the different components (like caps with the number codes on them) you wont kill a lot of time looking them up. I took a few pictures during the build that you see here. There is a picture of what you get, all the goodies!! A picture of the completed board, and for now, one with the resonator that i built for my original 4mhz EVR coil. I am currently building the resonator with the supplied parts from the instruction sheet, everyone here knows sometimes you get really busy and don't get that sort of stuff done when you want to. I will post some more photos as i get a little bit farther or even when i finish the kit. I spent about an hour and a half finishing the board. A few cool things i would like to note below!! 1) The heatsink is already drilled and tapped for you! (saves a load of time laying it out and drilling and tapping. A bummer if you happen to not have a tap the correct size!) 2) Everything is there! The wire is included and there is enough for the choke and the resonator! 3) Pcb layout is 100% correct and with the instructions, you could probably get a squirrel to assemble it for you! 4) No more cutting the board for the mosfets, they are on the edge. (check out the photo) 5) Every detail was thought out and it sounds AWESOME!!!
I am going to be building another identical unit to complete a stereo pair for the full effect, i will post more as i go!!

Doc,
That was a nice commercial. It is good to know that the PCB's are now 100% correct. In fact, I have been contemplating buying a kit myself, just to get a working design to measure and study.

Finn! Sorry if it sounded like a commercial!! I just love this thing though!! I just finished up the coil that came with the kit and the tuning from the instruction sheet gets it to light up. The usual, its going to require some tweaking to get maximum output. Also, i mentioned that i have the original 4mhz coil EVR offered before. I am right now running the two together in stereo. Sounds awesome! The only catch is that the two coils HAVE to be at least 3 feet apart to operate right. Any closer and the two will split the energy between them and both turn mono. The sounds that came out of mine when they were too close reminded me of one of those trick or treat sound effect cd's that people play at halloween time! At least for me. When i get the second new one finished i will post the happenings, may be different as they can handle more power than the original i have.

I am going to buy this kit soon, do you have more info of the powertransformer (high power version)?
an other question: is it possible to use (twisted) or (coaxial) cable from pcb to resonater with a length of 60cm (24inch), and if so wat is better coax or twisted?

The transformer has a 70vac output, thats about all i can tell you on that. As far as the wires to the resonator, i am using 2 individual wires that i twisted together myself. It is about 24 inches long and works just fine. The wire that comes with the kit for the primary will not give you the 24 inch length but that also works just fine. When you say coaxial, i think of a shielded cable with a single solid conductor in the center, like a cable tv line. I dont think you would want to use that. The primary needs to be the wire that is specified in the instructions because of the resonant frequency when it is wound to form the primary. As long as the primary coil is made correctly i dont think it matters how you connect it to the board as long as the wire can carry the voltage and current. Current probably being the most important. Its an awesome kit, i am working on finishing a second one right now!
