To all of you electronics buffs I have an interesting IC that has all of the features to run a tesla. thease IC's are the UC3861 to UC3868 from Texas Instraments, they are part of the old unitrode line. some of the features are zero crossing ZVS or ZCS, softstart, fault circuitry, VCO and dual outputs. You can find the PDF for the IC's plus an application note U-122. What do you think N.B. cheesey

This is just a standard power supply controller (one of thousands available on the market). Not really going to be any more useful for tesla coils then any other power supply controller ICs out there.

Eastern this is not a PWM but uses resonant storage to do enegy convesion. Check it out thanks.

Yes, I realize that. I never said it was a PWM controller. But it is just a standard power supply controller nonetheless. The resonant storage concept is very common in power supply design and there are many ICs that do this. Other than the fact the concept contains the similar word, "resonant", i don't see how it would benefit a tesla coil system. DRSSTCs, for example, running with primary feedback will naturally switch with zero current crossing so a chip designed to do this isn't necessary.

I looked at all of these chips when I was designing the PLL driver. I still believe my latest circuit with the 4046 is the best possible solution, although I guess there's not really much between it and the Jimmy-Ward type circuits. Of course YMMV.

when Look at them closly your right, but there are a lot usefull feturs in them. I was hoping there would be one chip that does it all. I ordered them any way to fool around with.
