My strobe is a 1500W one picked up in a surplus store for $190. It was a hit with the kids on my open day trying to play catch with a strobed ball. Very hard!
LOL

and why are you using a car?

I am using a car as this was part of an idea being developed for a German show that has now cancelled.
Nevertheless, in line with my other projects, I want to give this car some notoriety. My last car project on Google images for "car" rated around the 9th picture out of 296,000,000 Oct 2009 to March 2010. (Tesladownunders Car theft protection).
For an effective photo I like to have someone in close proximity to the event and in a car is the only reasonably safe place.
People relate to cars and it gives a fixed and manageable scale to work with. And it demonstrates a concept of safety in the face of clear and present danger. This was part of the reason behind the popularity of the sparks to the Faraday cage and also to sparks in the pool.

Here is a shot to the bonnet of the car with a smaller exploding wire over the tyre.
The exploding wire is about 4 feet above the car.

The second shot is an aborted one where only perhaps 2kJ got transferred to the wire before it separated leaving most of the charge still in the capacitor.

So you are doing this to get more hits? Right!!
Doesn't seem spectacular enough to get too much publicity.
Maybe you should use a superhero in the picture.
Ironman would be a good one, you could exploit the movie coming out soon. :)

Other people have thought of that before with my stuff here.

And a 6 foot 100kA flash 3 feet in front of you is not impressive enough. Man, you are seriously hardcore!
But will it generate any interest? Not as much as my usual big arty stuff. Perhaps of more interest as a TV tie in to lightning and its effects.
But, hey I haven't finished yet, I have a lot more to go yet.

No-one I know has done this before or at least I have not seen any pics on the net of exploding wires simulating lightning to a car. Most sparks onto a car are from Tesla coils and come nowhere near a lightning simulation. A big Marx generator in a HV lab will do better. But a 2MV spark will be 6 feet only and of similar length and of whatever power but not likely to be very many times greater than 10kJ in power.

Here is a longer spark viewed through some foil covered mylar or similar plastic. Lots of nasty reflections and defects. There is only one spark channel.
Big problem now is getting an adequate sized neutral filter.

Here I used a red, orange. green and blue filters as a rather orange tilted filter.
Looks here like a "bolt out the red".

I have a large first surface mirror that would make a good large neutral density filter. Soon, once I make a mount for it.
