I'm looking for a Scope current transformer for measuring DRSSTC level currents and frequencies such as 0 - 1000A and 10 - 300KHz range.

Triad makes a nice cheap current transformer CST-type thats good for about 500A peak current and 300kHz.

Otherwise, you can probably get some pearsons or ion physics on ebay if you're looking for commercial CTs.

Can you say RIDICULOUS?!

Why can't you just make your own CT? Heck, you could even use a shunt if there was not thousands of volts on the primary.

Just get a ferrite transformer and make a CT. The only problem is that it is not split core, so you have to thread the wire through it. angry Unless, of course, you somehow made it split core... Hmm... That could be done with a U core transformer i suppose. You could also use a current transducer. I have one that i need to figure out. (its 400 amps 5v)

A neat trick for winding 100+ turns onto a ferrite core is to first wind the wire onto a pencil or other thin object, which fits through the ferrite core, then start wrapping the wire by looping the pencil through the core while unwinding the wire on the pencil, makes life much easier. :)

Thanks the resone im looking for a none home made CT is that I have tryed many times to build a CT but none of them seem to give accurate readings. sad

EDIT: But if some one here has some nifty way to calibrate a home built CT I would be glad to know.

Well, if you take a core, such as one from electronics goldmine, and use one turn for the primary and 100 turns for the secondary, with a 1 ohm burden, you should always get 1v/10 amps. Calibration can be done by inserting a paralleled potentiometer, and you could use a resistive shunt to get the exact current, then adjust the pot accordingly. Also, make sure you use quality resistors for the burden, make sure they are low tolerance and carbon film, any inductance might interfere.

I used a 1-200CT with a 2 ohm burden, and it seemed to be pretty exact when compared with a 500 amp shunt. You can this video out. I am measuring a drsstc primary current with the CT. Link2
