A small SSTC I started building last night smile

Specs :
fRes - Estimated to be about 6-700Khz
Driver - PLL
Output Stage - Halfbridge of IRF840s (hmm)
Secondary former - 2 1/4" rainwater pipe

Base etc made out of MDF - routered, sealed, smoothed and spray painted

Hoping to get first light very soon, then will be adding an interrupter, and eventually making it into a mini DRSSTC, when I find a source of IGBTs.

Thanks,

I have finally got around to completing the coil, I made a new half bridge from 2xIRFP460s
The fRes is over 1Mhz afterall, about 1.5Mhz, due to the heavy gauge wire on the secondary.

I've made a video anyway, pictures coming soon. In the video the coil is running from 110V into the half bridge, and is half-wave rectified.

2.2MB, MPEG1 Format. Enjoy!

Edit: There is a picture here. This shows the coil but with the old halfbridge.

looks good cheesey

The streamers look alot like my vttc (probably becuase I used alost exactly the same secondary), although I am guessing that you are getting considerably higher efficiency... Mine was drawing about 15 amps amazed

Excellent, very nice. I like the nice geometric shape of the base!

That's just adorable, Avalanche!

Always love the neatness/finished product of your coils - mine are never portable... they always remain as alligator clips and generally spread out over most of my desk =P

Thanks for the comments

Yeah I tend to spend a bit longer building things into complete finished articles now, my lash up projects from the past used to just get dismantled and I had nothing to show for all the time I spent neutral

In the video I am running it from a fairly small 2:1 step down transformer, so it is current limited somewhat as well. Maybe running about 75 watts at a guess. I will be trying it on the 230v mains directly, but unfortunately this is the point at which my coils usually explode! Fortunately the MOSFETs are easy to replace, and I will probably drop some IGBTs in soon and add an interrupter/tank cap. That will be when I make my next order, until then it remains an SSTC.

A couple of recent pics, showing the new half bridge. This is how the coil is at the moment (note the sticker!)
Last 2 pics - My new halfbridge design, and the secondary coil base.

Edit: Webpage is now up, visit my site to find it (link in sig)
