DRSSTC Input Power Limiting

Do I need to put a capacitor or an inductor on the AC Mains input of a DRSSTC to provide a reactance to limit the current to a certain level or no? In other words, if I don't have any type of reactance on the AC input will the coil just keep on sucking up more power until either something blows up or the circuit breaker trips?

The point of a DRSSTC is to get rid of all reactance and turn it off before it blows up, typically after only a few cycles of RF. The power that is drawn at first is limited by the surge impedance, z = sqrt(L/C), and then it builds up until something blows up. And then you replace the part that blew up, curse, and hook up a zero-cross-locked interrupter that stops the system before it blows up. Or you can just start with the interrupter.

When you first turn it on you usually either have a variac or an inrush limiter like a series light bulb or resistor to limit the initial charging of the storage capacitors. When operating all the energy usually comes out of those caps and you run the coil in really short bursts since the bridge current can rise beyond what the switching devices can handle. Although most people usually have active current limiting that watches the bridge current and stops it from going beyond a limit you set. However some people also use a series choke on the mains input to limit how much the whole thing pulls but that doesn't substitute an active current limiter, it just limits how much power you can such from your outlet.
