I finally got my half bridge sstc working. It's not pushing any where near the power it is rated for, but it is quite reliable as it is. I may put a feedback system on it but until then the VCO is usable, just quite finicky (but only when I take my hand off it! Perhaps I am acting like an antenna and somehow the potentiometer is passing the signal from me on to the VCO? Hah... scary =)
It's a half bridge of FGL40N120.... running at somewhere between 350 and 450kHz. I'll scope out the disconnected VCO one of these days to find out. I sometimes use an interrupter that operates as a fixed frequency variable duty cycle signal generator, running at ~400Hz, with about 10-90% duty cycle.
The IGBTs seem to have a higher gate capacitance than their datasheet suggests... so I made a half bridge of fets driving a 1:2 GDT to drive them, and now my UCCs never even get warm, since they just have FETs on their output (after the GDT, of course...)
VID: ... sorry about the orientation... the photographer is new to the "Flip"...
