Hi, i have quite a uniqe problem i never got before - my TC is dead.

Secondary is 145 turns on 4cm dia pipe, primary is 3.9 turns around 4.5 dia.

It was running happy, i was choosing my resonant caps (somewhere between 2-3nF), i am using single switch mosfet irf640.

Problem is, when i changed caps few times, now it suddenly wont run ( in beggining, it run even without it quite nicely), now its "dead" and i cant get it resonant no matter what i do.

driver board is antenna feedback, and is good, i tested it with bigger TC and it was ok.

I even got a new coat on secondary as i heard some strange noises when it starting to do unusual behaviour ( i thought of flashovers, as primary is really close to secondary, only 1mm+ cable insulation), but not helped.

What can be the problem ?

Is this a SSTC or DRSSTC since you mention a resonant capacitor?

The strange noises could be your mosfet dying, I have heard something similar in fake mosfets when their voltage ratings were exceeded.

Measure shorts between the legs of the mosfet, it could be dead.

Measure the gate resistor, it could have gone open circuit.

capacitor is in parallel with primary coil, i think its not DRSSTC (as i seen only serial connection in DR)

mosfet and everything was ok (until today when i destroyed it), as i tried to interrupt power - halfwave rectifier, it worked but really badly (only 1 mm spark few times).

I calculated resonant frequency (well the program did Grin ) first through MANDK, then java TC - to get appx. cap value.

Maybe i try another mosfet (irfp 460 with little driver board tweakout - to get more amps to fet).

Ok so then that cap is a DC block.
