Agilent makes some very nice scopes, some of their older models are still very much better than new stuff by Rigol. The 54624A is very nice if you can find one used, it's got 2MB acquisition memory per channel so you can zoom in on single shots without loosing detail. Really good for DRSSTCs for example.

The other nice one in that series is the 54622D, which has 2 analog and 16 digital channels. That one is a little easier to find.

If you must spend money then go ahead.

I spent $135 on the Spark Fun GPIB adapter, the software is free, and it has no problems with my 2430. I'd check to see if the KE5FX software (or whatever the guy's call sign is) supports the 2465.

The 2465 is a (very good) analog scope, so unfortunately an interface won't help.

Printcapture (Link2 emulates various printers for analysers etc. on a PC - it supports the Tek 2430A amongst others.

I too have a 2340A and a 2465 - the 2465 is a truly brilliant analogue scope but there doesn't seem to be a way to make it print. The 2430A with a Prologix board from Sparkfun or whoever is great.

Cheers

I bought a new 50MHz Rigol scope too, for my needs I am very satified, the only beef with it seems to be the rather bad software for the PC.

It has a good quality feel to it, buttons and potmeters are tight and smooth, its far from being uttercheap crap, this guy made som video reviews on the Rigol scopes: Link2

I had a 2430 too, it's actually why I got the Rigol. The thing just died after a few months, no display. A common problem aparently.

It seems like some of the data capture ability of scopes mentioned on this post is the printing of the scope screen. While that may sometimes be useful in certain circumstances I think that having the ability to export the data in a 2 column list, time and amplitude (.xls, .csv, .txt), should be considered an absolute necessity. On a daily basis I do post processing of scope data for things such as subtracting or adding traces for differential measurements, multiplying by constants or in some cases functions of time for calibrations or corrections, integrating traces (necessary for derivative current monitors such as Bdot and rogowski coils), and adjusting timing offsets. Maybe if you are just doing very simple measurements you might not need to do data post processing but once you have done it you can never go back.

I looked into the rigol ds1104b. It looks pretty good.

I also have a tektronix 2465b as some have mentioned. How would you compare the two?
