D1 will cause generalized destruction in this position when the lower mosfet interrupts the current in the coil. Remove it. And, as already said, you can't drive with low voltage the upper mosfet.

In mine, D1 connects to Vcc = 15V, which is separated from the main supply so everything is fine and V_GS of the upper mosfet is within 0..14.5V

Your circuit is ok. D1 in the circuit posted by NovoRei would cause the "kickback" voltage generated by the coil when the lower mosfet ceases to conduct to be applied to the gate of the upper mosfet trough the zeners, almost surely destroying it.

Thanks, Antonio. I assume NovoReis circuit just lacks the freewheeling diodes because he was thinking about the gate driver side. I almost forgot them, too smile
