I need some caps suitable for a marx that outputs around 200-250kv, current does not need to be too terribly high, so maybe 500pf-1nf capacitance. I will likely use about 30kv in from an LOPT, maybe with a low power (100 watt or so) Mazzilli driver, for the source. I guess the little blue ceramic capacitors will work for this.

I also need some resistors that could handle the 30kv for charging, so i suppose 1 megohm and however large it needs to be for 30kv.

Anyone have this, or know of a source? I tried eBay, but it seems all of the capacitors they have are overpriced, and i did not see any 30kv or more. My budget is very small, so cheap is what i am going for. Once i got enough ceramics for this project for 10 bucks, but those are all dead now. If i can get everything for 20 bucks, that would be perfect.

Thanks,
Matthew.

These resistors may work: Link2
Think they'd stand up to the 30kv?

Also, if you have some small steel balls lying around, i might want to buy some of those tongue . They seem like they would work well for spark gaps, and i know they are easy to solder.

Mike from Mike's electronic stuff said that solid carbon resistors tend not to go open circuit after a couple shots. Some 1W 1M carbon comp resistors should be good. If you need more voltage standoff capabilities, you can decrease the resistance and add more resistors in series.

Yea, someone said that in a thread just yesterday. I will do that. Maybe i can find some on eBay or Newark. I think i will do as you suggested and get some 1w 500k resistors and use two in series.

Thanks,
Matt.

Hello:

I have a bunch of brand new 30KV 2700pF capacitors which would work very well, but these are not cheap, they are new Sr Titanate Doorknob capacitors, which are used in commercial excimer lasers, and for flash x-ray systems. On ebay these sell for $27 each, but I would be willing to give a substantial discount for quantity, with free shipping in the US.

Sorry I have not responded! I seem to rely too heavily on the green dots, which can be misleading...

Those capacitors you have sound great, but unfortunately, i do not have the money. I was at first hoping to use something like those, but i have just about no budget.

If i have something that is worth most likely 10, possibly 15 (to ensure i have a safety margin) of those caps to you, i will sure trade, but i am not sure if i have anything worth that much! That would come out to 270 or 405 dollars. If there is anything you need, ask me. Just a few things i have. I have some induction motors, one is modded for sync operation with a small load, i have some pretty nice ferrite E cores (with the bobbin, which is divided into 3 parts, which i can cut off and sand smooth) that are for 1600w continuous, some slow IGBT halfbridge brick modules... Or you can come pick up my pole pig. Hehe tongue can you say 'zomgalotofgas'?

Just PM me with anything you want me to look around for in here :D.

Matthew.
